windows Windows 7 backwards compatability with old games?

Hey, Hope this is the right place to put this (wasn't sure if this would go in the games or rigs category). But anyways I really want to get Red Faction: guerrilla for the PC but I know the current system I have right now wouldn't be able to run it. So I figured I would just buy a new computer, and with Windows 7 coming out I figured I would just buy a computer pre installed. The only thing I am worried about is I don't really know about how good Windows 7 would be with old games.

Hey Rearvetex, I can answer your question. long answer short, from what I have read you should be able to play all of the games that you can play on XP and Vista on Windows 7. They actually have some sort of video game file that has a list of all the games installed on your computer and their description. Tell me what computer you are looking at and I should be able to tell you if Red Faction will play on it.

I've been using Windows 7 for a very long time now, have not found any issues running any games. I even have ran Motocross Madness 2, anyone who's played this knows its as old as the hills, but it runs perfectly on my box!

That is definitely old school. I think the oldest thing I have installed on my laptop is...maybe a Rise of Nations trial?

Nothing incredibly old here

Yeah only issues may be if you have some really old dos games it may not be possible to run in compatibility mode. You might have to find an emulator.

I don't know anything about windows 7, but when I got a PC with Vista I had some problems with a couple XP games until the first service pack came out. If you're the gamblin type you could go for it, and if it doesn't work you would have to wait for a fix.

I'm on 7 and I have not found a game I can't play. Oldest thing I have on my computer (and running) is Doom 2 and Doom Ultimate. It even works online through Doomseeker. I wouldn't be nervous if I were you. This is probably my favorite OS to date.

Edit: lawl, just saw how old this thread is... anyways, I hope my info comes in handy anyways. /slap eradicator06
